Roughly half of the raw materials we extract go into the world’s built environment. Construction creates an estimated third of the world's overall waste, and at least 40% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions. BBC

Construction waste includes a variety of materials: ceramics, tiles, bricks, concrete, wood, glass, metal etc. Some of this construction waste can be recycled while some can be considered hazardous in nature. What makes construction waste hazardous is the coatings, plastics, paints, and varnishes used. And  when discarded near water sources, leaching of different hazardous chemicals can occur.

This project was started to help make the negative environmental impact of this sector more visible.
